Hi, I’m Alysha! With a warm, playful, and passionate energy; I bring a person-centered, and mind-body approach to my counseling practice. I have a deep-rooted passion for working with children and their families. As a person-centered practitioner, this means that I believe in you being the expert on you. I look to provide a space that facilitates resiliency, self-discovery, healing, and growth.

“Children communicate through play”

As a bilingual (French/English) practitioner, I believe providing children the space to express their thoughts and feelings in their primary language is imperative. This way we foster mindfulness, resiliency, empowerment, compassion, and self-discovery. I am always in complete awe when I see children make deep mind-body connections. Their innate ability to view the world around them with innocence, curiosity, interest, and laughter makes them incredible world teachers and resilient. I am always humbled and honored to share the sacred space of the inner world of a child and to be trusted to walk their path with them.

“All grown-ups were once children… but only a few of them remember it” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

We have often forgotten how to connect to playfulness and true joy. I believe that rediscovering play as adults, allows us to not only reconnect with ourselves but can be profoundly healing. I aim to provide a therapeutic space where adults can access their “inner child” and rediscover, through evidence-based practices, playfulness, creativity, and freedom of the ‘grown up’ constructs of society to find healing, and growth.

I also look at supporting the whole family system to find more effective, healthy, and strength-based ways in deepening the relationship to self and those within that system.

I hold a Bachelors degree with Honours in Psychology, and a minor in Criminology from the University of Ottawa. I completed my Masters in Counselling Psychology at Adler University in Vancouver, BC where I specialized in child and family therapy.

I have specialized training in:

• Developmental Disorders • Childhood stress and anxiety • Expressive Play Therapy • Gottman Method Couples Therapy: Level 1 • Trauma-informed approach • Social skills development • Managing divorce and separation • Depression • ASPECT-ASD Training

On a personal note, my fiancé and I love to travel and discover the world. But we most enjoy spending time cuddling and playing outdoors with our golden retriever, Dr. Watson (who frequently helps me in the therapy room). He loves a good belly rub if you see him around the office.

Hi, I’m Christen McCallum, owner, and clinical director of Providence Therapy. I am a Registered Clinical Counselor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counselors (R.C.C.) and hold my Graduate Degree in Counselling Psychology from Adler University in Vancouver BC where I focused on trauma recovery. I also hold my Master’s Degree in Leadership from Trinity Western where I focused on organizational and non-profit leadership.

I am passionate about creating a space where clients can feel secure as they explore their stories in an environment of therapeutic connection. Whatever challenges you may be navigating through with right now, my hope is that through our work you may come to find effective tools to manage your symptoms, overcome challenges, and make meaning of your circumstances as you move forward in healing.

In my work, I focus on trauma recovery. However, this may not be in the way you have come to understand trauma. In my practice, trauma is defined as the impact that accumulated stress has had on our brain and nervous system. This can include big T traumas ( major car accidents, assaults, near-death experiences, etc.), but can also include the accumulation of smaller adverse experiences or stressors we have experiences over our lifetimes. The result of this can often lead to the experience of pesky symptoms such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, experiences of rigidity or chaos, feeling stuck in coping strategies that are no longer working for you, and experiences of physical symptoms such as chronic pain and inflammation, fatigue, autoimmune deficiencies, and more.

In addressing these concerns, I draw from a diverse education and an assorted range of therapeutic theories and techniques. My hope is that as we work together we can tailor a therapeutic approach to meet your individual needs.

As a clinician, I maintain a holistic, mind-body oriented approach to therapy grounded in neuroscience, with an emphasis on attachment and relational healing. I maintain a trauma-focused integrative approach to treatment and have trained in a variety of research-informed therapeutic modalities such as:

Attachment and Systems approach

Mindfulness/ MBCBT

Mind-Body therapeutic integrations

Integrative Parts of the Personality & Ego State Therapies

Imaginal Nurturing/ Inner Child

Observed and Experiential Integration Therapy (OEI)

I am also a member of EMDRIA and EMDR Canada and hold my Certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), as well as several advanced level EMDR training working with structural dissociation and other complex issues.

In addition to more traditional therapeutic approaches, I am also a certified LENS Neurofeedback Technician and offer LENS Neurofeedback & Photonic Stimulator Infrared Light Therapy as stand-alone or complementary treatments for clients with central nervous system dysfunction, thyroid disorders, chronic pain, muscle or joint injuries or inflammation; that can follow trauma.

Though my training welcomes clients with varying concerns and goals, I have specific experience working with survivors of gendered violence, sexual abuse, human trafficking and work from an anti-oppression lens.

On a personal level, I absolutely love to learn, explore the world, and play music any chance I can. I maintain an active lifestyle consisting of a range of mixed martial arts and group fitness activities and am an advocate for balanced healthy living. I am also a professional dog lover and hope to integrate animal therapy into practice in the future. I understand that we can face many challenges when taking the first step to healing. My hope is that as we work together we can find a therapeutic approach to meet your individual needs so you can grow, heal and thrive. I look forward to starting that process of healing with you.

Are you seeking a deeper connection to life? Is it time to do some healing?

Let’s use my knowledge and skill to help you find your way through the unique challenges you’re facing. Through EMDR therapy, counselling, and life coaching sessions, you can begin to feel empowered, achieve your goals, heal, and grow.

Hi, I’m Maryam. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor here at Providence Therapy. I am registered with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (R.C.C) and obtained my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Adler University in Downtown Vancouver.

I specialize in trauma therapy, PTSD, anxiety and depression. I’m also a certified EMDR therapist, which is a proven safe and effective method of transforming trauma symptoms. I know that the word trauma can feel a little big. But trauma can refer to any distressing or disturbing experience from the past that is still affecting your present.

Here’s one thing I know for sure: trauma can leave you feeling stuck. And when you’re overwhelmed by emotions and stuck in old patterns, it can be difficult just to function day to day. Which makes building a life full of meaning and wonder seem impossible.

It is my heartfelt belief that therapy is one of the most effective ways to find clarity on your issues and take steps toward healing. As a matter of fact, if you are thinking about talking to someone, you are already on the first step of your healing journey.

The work that we do together is in a safe space. In our sessions, we’ll work to uncover the hidden blocks on your path and work through them with courage, clarity and support. The simple act of facing your fears and experiencing vulnerability can be transformative. I am always in awe of the power of the human spirit for healing.

Hi, I’m Sarah. An art therapist here at Providence Therapy.

I attained a Graduate Degree in Art Therapy from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute in 2012, and am a member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association. My work in mental health has brought me into many different settings with a variety of populations over my years of practice, and I have witnessed over and over again how resilient and adaptive we are as humans.

Art therapy is usually something most people have questions about – let me tell a little about art therapy and my personal approach.

Art has always been a part of my life; it has been the tool I have reached for since childhood to create space for myself, find expression, and healing. Art therapy is the combination of traditional psychotherapy and the expressiveness of the arts. I truly believe in the restorative and enriching power of art as a tool in therapy. Through art-making, clients are invited to express their feelings and give voice to their inner conflicts. My role as your therapist, as in traditional counseling, is to be your support and guide. Art therapy is for anyone at any stage of life, and its versatility is something that continues to inspire and motivate me with my clients. No experience in fine arts is necessary to engage in art therapy.

The invitation, and often the challenge, in art therapy is to let go of the expectations we have of ourselves in creative areas and to be open to exploring the art materials as a means of expression and connection with the self. I am constantly amazed at the deep wisdom we all have, and how powerful it can be to give shape and form to the things we can not always find words for. For many, art therapy is a means to make way for that deep wisdom to express itself.

I work from a person-centered, trauma-informed, holistic approach. This means that my work is rooted in the belief that we all have an innate ability to flourish, and the therapy space is a way for individuals to move forwards towards growth and wholeness. You are the expert on you, and truthfully, you will be the one doing the hardest work in our sessions.

Being trauma-informed means that my work takes into account past, current, systemic, historical, and inter-generational experiences of violence and trauma. Trauma can effect individuals in all aspects of life, and by giving that pain a place for expression and growth, we have the opportunity to make meaning. A holistic approach is vital to all of this – exploring the mind-body connection and seeing a person as a part of an interconnected whole with complex needs and bonds. We do not exist in isolation, and a foundational aspect of our well being is based on connection and relationship. I am passionate about community and encouraging clients to cultivate a rich, diverse support system. The work of therapy is part of the solution but rarely is it the whole answer. A community based, holistic approach acknowledges that reaching our best self includes a multitude of people, supports, environments, and chances to learn and grow.

In my years of practice, I have worked with people of all ages and walks of life, with specialties in addictions and substance use, end of life and grief, and children and family systems.

I am endlessly fascinated by the world around me, and love the challenge of a new opportunity – especially when it comes to learning about our brains, bodies, and ways of being. I value humor, good food, people, nature, and while relationship is such an integral part of my being, I also enjoy solitude.

Healing is a process, and I would be honored to walk alongside you for part of it.

Hello, I’m Brigitte, Canadian Certified Counsellor at Providence Therapy. Welcome!

I am highly passionate about the human journey. I view crisis as an invitation for healing, change, and developing a better understanding of self in the world. We are each remarkable beings and hold immense gifts within us waiting to be brought forth. I view the therapeutic process as one avenue for such unfolding. My intention as a therapist is to show up for you, in authentic presence and connection, to provide an experience of safety, hold space, bear witness, and offer gentle guidance. My role is to honour and support the inherent intelligence of your being to direct your unique journey towards a healthier, more fulfilled version of yourself. What a joyful endeavour! I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C.) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I hold a Master of Education in Counselling from the University of Victoria – Dr. David deRosenroll’s amazing Off-Campus Program! My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner with the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. I bring 14 years of private practice experience to my work.

  • Body Centred

  • Emotion Focused

  • Trauma Informed

  • Spiritually Open

I work from a holistic perspective seeing all aspects of our experience, conscious or unconscious, as integral to our process. The wisdom of our body, our emotions, and that which lies beyond our thinking brain, all lead us to the deeper truth of our being. I have a solid basis in somatic process and supporting healing through the mind-body connection. I draw heavily on the wisdom of Emotion-Focused Therapy to help us embrace what our emotions can contribute to our wellness.

My trauma-informed practice relies on the understanding of how we are impacted by overwhelming experiences and how honoring our experience in the here and now can unleash an innate healing process to help restore our health. I am comfortable supporting spiritual exploration from a wide array of perspectives – religious or otherwise.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is the work of Dr. Peter Levine. When in life we encounter situations that we perceive as a threat, our bodies go into threat response (fight, flight, or freeze) to help us survive. If we are unable to respond successfully (overwhelm), our bodies get stuck in and retain the experience and we go forth changed (trauma). The memory may exist in our brain but the experience is also retained in our cellular memory. The stuck experience interferes with our ability to perceive and respond to the world around us. When we can consciously feel into these past experiences, in the here and now, in a way that is not overwhelming again, our bodies are able to complete the self-protective responses and let the experience go. This is Somatic Experiencing.

Therapeutic Relationship

Our nervous system is literally hard-wired for connection. As infants, we rely on connection with our caregivers for our literal survival. As we grow we develop who we are in the world in relation to our community around us. It makes sense then that many of our challenges would also be relational in nature. Healing is, consequently, greatly enhanced within safe connection. All of this speaks to the profound importance of the therapeutic relationship – ideally as a template for safe, healing, human relationship. It is my commitment to strive to show up in such a way with each person I have the honor and privilege to know and support.

I work with individual adults who are stable with regard to safety.

On a personal note, I am blessed to share my life with my two wonderful sons, their lovely ladies, and my precious little grandson (soon to be two), along with other family and great friends. I enjoy music, dance, gardens, the ocean, animals, spirit, peace, healthy living, unfolding, and above all connection. If my words speak to you, I look forward to the opportunity for us to meet so that together we can create your unique journey of healing.

Thank you!

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University. I am a Registered Psychologist, a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists #4222, a member of the Psychologists Association of British Columbia #2358, the Psychologists Association of Alberta # 9215, and a Certified EMDR Therapist and Lens Neurofeedback technician. My primary work is in the treatment of trauma and stress-related disorders. I work with individuals and couples.

Regardless of your circumstances, whether you are having problems in your relationships, having difficulties facing the world because of trauma, or are experiencing low mood, stress and anxiety, my hope is that you may come to find your way through it. Choosing to go to therapy requires courage, trust, and a strong commitment. With that in mind, I believe in taking an empathic, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach to create a safe and caring environment. My hope for you is that by exploring your story you may come to recognize patterns of thought, emotion, perceptions, and response. That you would also achieve effective tools to manage your symptoms, overcome challenges, and make meaning of your circumstances as you heal and move forward.

To aid my work, I use the felt connection between the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. I integrate perspectives from emotionally focused therapy, polyvagal theory, trauma theory, structural dissociation theory, emerging research in interpersonal neurobiology and neuroscience, and process-oriented body therapies, with particular emphasis on attachment and relational healing. Each of these perspectives highlights the important implications for the human capacity to heal. It is my desire to help support and guide my clients towards more integration and wholeness. That their events be sufficiently processed allowing them to be informed by their memories rather than controlled by them so they can experience effective, positive, and lasting changes in their lives.

My hope is that as we work together, we can tailor a therapeutic approach to meet your individual needs. I look forward to starting the process of healing with you.

Hi, I am Jessie! I know it takes strength and courage to start therapy.

As a clinician, I provide a safe, and non-judgmental space for healing. I work from a holistic, trauma-informed, and intersectional perspective. I am a proud member of the LGBTQ community and love working with a diversity of clients.

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BCACC. I have a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Adler University and I researched what helps and hinders immigrant and bicultural peoples access counseling.

As a trauma-informed counselor, I believe in a holistic focus and emphasize the mind-body connection. Trauma can be defined as sudden or cumulative stressors that overwhelm our body’s natural ability to cope. We may experience symptoms such as anxiety, anger, emotional numbness, low self-esteem, brain fog, PTSD, dissociation, or memory loss. We may find ourselves stuck in patterns such as people-pleasing, self-sabotage, shame, self-harm, or perfectionism that are no longer serving us.

We can take control of our nervous system and heal from old patterns.

I have trained in research-informed modalities such as:

-Adlerian Therapy -Attachment Theory -Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) -Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) -Eye Movement Reprocessing & Desensitization (EMDR) -Gottman Couple’s Counselling -LENS Neurofeedback

I know entering therapy can feel a bit confronting. I would feel honored to work with you and to understand your complexity. In learning about you I would tailor an informed and integrative therapeutic approach to meet your needs.

On a personal level, I was born and raised in Vancouver BC and I am a true Vancouverite. I love the city, the rain, the nature, and being bundled up on the couch with a hot tea. Adventure fuels me, no matter how big or small that adventure might be. I’m an avid traveler and want to experience as many different places and cultures as I can. I take every chance I can to be in nature whether it’s hiking, snowshoeing, diving, or camping. My husband and I are both plant-based/vegan and I am obsessed with all animals. We try to live our lives in line with the value of reducing as much harm as possible, and one way we like to give back is through training service dogs in our spare time.

When I am not working, I am spending time with those who inspire and empower me whether it’s family, friends, or my amazing clients. Meaningful relationships are everything to me, and that is why I want you to see me as an authentic human on top of who I may be as a therapist. I look forward to connecting with you.

Hello, I’m Priya Gill, a Clinical Counselor at Providence Therapy. I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology as well as a Bachelor of Arts (honors) in Criminology with a Minor in Psychology. I have worked in the area of mental health and advocacy for many years and am incredibly passionate about creating a safe space where you can share with me who you are and your life story.

Our working relationship is a fundamental component to therapy and my therapeutic approach is grounded in person-centered and existential-phenomenological psychotherapy. This means that I seek to be open to whatever you bring to our sessions, without judgement, step inside your world without applying my own bias or interpretation, and we enter into conversations that examine your life journey, experiences, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors and support you in tackling your concerns. Drawing upon my years working with survivors of gendered violence, I incorporate an inter-sectional feminist lens as well.

I approach my work with the philosophy that each individual is an expert in their own lives and therefore one individual is the same. My hope is to support you through the challenges you are facing right now, equip you with tools that will support you to overcome life challenges and assist you as you tune into your mind, body and guts wisdom, resiliency and capacity to heal.

I specialize in working with trauma, intimate partner violence, anger, anxiety, depression, and substance use concerns. I incorporate evidence-based best practices to my work with each individual. Though I hold a graduate degree, I am dedicated to continually growing as an individual and professional. As such, I am currently enrolled in Compassionate Inquiry year long post-graduate program with Dr. Gabor Mate. Additionally, I am in the process of training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

I view the therapeutic relationship between you and I to be a sacred space and I wish to honor it. In whatever concerns and challenges you want to work through, having a counselor to work alongside with can be an empowering experience.

Hi there! Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and read my bio. My name is Martina and I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Adler University. I am a Registered Clinical Counselor (RCC) with the BCACC. I moved to Canada with my family from Slovakia when I was young and am a first-generation Canadian. I have always been passionate about helping others and supporting them along their healing journey.

MY MISSION IS TO BE A SUPPORTIVE PRESENCE TO THOSE IN NEED OF GUIDANCE. I UTILIZE A DEEP CONNECTION WITH HUMAN EMOTION TO FACILITATE THE HEALING PROCESS AND EMPOWER OTHERS BY BRINGING OUT THEIR STRENGTHS AND HELPING THEM LOVE AND ACCEPT THEMSELVES.

In my counseling practice, I strive to be empathetic, open-minded, observant, kind, curious, and non-judgmental. My strength lies in understanding that not one person, diagnosis, treatment, or treatment plan is the same. The theoretical and practical therapies I utilize include Mindfulness-Based Techniques, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, and Expressive Therapy. I have experience working with trauma, sexuality/intimacy concerns, relational issues, anxiety, and depression. I also work as a leadership coach and have supported patients and doctors in Vancouver through my role at the Vancouver Division of Family Practice for over 5 years. I also am a certified LENS Neurofeedback technician and incorporate Neurofeedback as a strategic therapeutic intervention as a stand-alone or complementary addition to therapy.

As someone who has experienced mental health challenges and reached out for counseling myself, I know how important it is to have someone who understands, cares, and supports you through the toughest challenges in life. It takes courage to reach out, and the fact that you’re here shows that you are a resilient person with the capacity for change.

I work from a wellness-based perspective and believe that creating a sense of empowerment is one of the ultimate goals for therapy. I believe that we can all benefit from learning how to hold space, forgive, and love ourselves. My goal with each session is to help my clients get a little closer to that empowered state. When discussing mental health-related struggles, I look at how your environment has influenced your symptomology and overall functioning – this includes early childhood experiences, family dynamics, culture, religion, spirituality, and social environment. I help you uncover the roadmap to life you may have created at a younger age and continue to follow today that may not be serving you anymore.

I believe that everyone is capable of making a change in their life, on their own time, and at their own pace. Having a safe place to explore this is key in learning to effectively cope, adapt, and change. If you think we may be a good fit, it would be my honor to support your healing journey. Let’s get through this together.
